Visiting Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands located in the Atlantic Ocean off of the coast of Spain and it is the capital of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is referred to as the island of two faces because of the north-south divide. The island offers great opportunities for hiking, swimming, surfing, photography and so much more.

The volcanic origins of this island have made some of the beach’s sand black while other beaches have opted to remove the black sand and replace it with golden imported sand. Attractions to See

There are so many attractions and sites to visit on the island of Tenerife that you that you will certainly not be bored while vacationing here. The most popular tourist attraction on the island is the Teide National Park (tel: 34 922 922 371), home of the volcano Mount Teide. A ten minute cable lift will take you to almost the top of the Mount to Spain’s highest point. You will be offered a fantastic view of the Canary Islands.

Hiking is a popular activity and the island has many locations that offer a great hiking experience. One of them is in Mosac, which is located in the mountains north of Los Gigantes and allows you to walk down the ravine to the coast. This hike will show you some of the most picture perfect sites on the island. Hell’s Ravine (tel: 822 782 885) is another prime hiking spot where you can hike into the deepest gorge in all seven of the Canary Islands.

If you are an animal lover, then Tenerife has a few animal parks that will be the perfect attraction to see. The Loro Parque (tel: 34 922 373 841), which in English means Parrot Park, is just what the name suggests. They house over 3,000 parrots comprising of at least 300 different species. You should also visit Camel Park (tel: 34 922 720 403) for an hour long ride on one of these amazing animals. They are open daily 10 – 5. Jungle Park is located in the hills of Los Cristianos and has 75,000 square meters of amazing landscaped tropical gardens. This park is open daily form 10 – 5:30.

Traveling Around Tenerife

Tenerife offers bus and taxi services to many of the local attractions. However, if you want to see Tenerife your way then a car hire is the right choice for you.
