The northern region of Tenerife is home to more locals and is not as popular for tourism as the southern parts. Their temperatures may not be as warm as in the south but they still have springtime days almost all year round. The north of Tenerife offers a wide range of attractions and sites to see while vacationing on the island.

The Tenerife North Airport, also known as Los Rodeos, is the smaller of the two airports found on the island of Tenerife. The airport is located about 9km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and generally serves flights from mainland Spain and between the seven Canary Islands. The airport offers many accommodations to their visitors including five cafes, seven shops and one bank with a currency exchange option.

Attractions to See

The northern region of Tenerife is very scenic with coastal cliffs and mountain top views. It is important to note that the drinking age is 18 years old and drinking and driving in this country is illegal. The most famous tourist site on the island is the Teida National Park (tel: 349 922 922 371), which is home to the volcano Mount Teida. Visitors can ride a cable lift to near the top of the Mount and with special permission they are able to climb the rest of the way to the top of the Mount. This is the highest point in Spain and provides breath-taking views.

Another popular tourist attraction located in north Tenerife is Loro Parque (tel: 34 922 373 841), or Parrot Park and it is located in Puerto de la Cruz. The Park is home to over 3000 parrots from over 300 different species. They are open from 8:30 – 6:45 but they will not let you enter the park after 4:00.

There are two popular botanical gardens in northern Tenerife. The Botanical Gardens of Puerto de la Cruz (tel: 34 922 383 572) offers a wide range of plant and tree species. They are open 9-7 April through September and 9-6 October through March. The Sitro Litre Gardens (tel: 34 922 382 417) houses a large collection of orchids that would be a delight to any plant lover.
