Being a partly tax free area, Tenerife, along with the other Canary Islands, sells tobacco, spirits and perfumes cheaper than most EU countries, as a result travelers returning from the Canary Islands are regarded as outside the European Union by the customs officials.

In the shops the electronic goods are cheap, and widely available in every brand, shape, or form. Mobile phones are particularly cheap, as well as car stereos and cameras. Watches are also available in vast array and at bargain prices.
